Two Eleven Poker Rules

Two Eleven, or 2-11, is an Omaha-style game. Each player gets four hole cards, and four community cards are dealt: a two-card flop, a turn and a river. Players make their best five-card hand from two or three of their hole cards plus three or two of the board cards, and the game can be played high only or high-low with a seven-or-better low.

Also known as 2-11, 2-11 Poker, Two Eleven Poker

Article 1Players, deck and objective

1.1

Two Eleven was invented by Bruce Paul of 211poker.com and is listed on pagat.com with his permission.

1.2

Between two and ten players may take part. The game uses a standard 52-card deck with no wild cards.

1.3

Each player's hand is exactly five cards, made from two or three of their four hole cards together with three or two of the four community cards. A player may not use four hole cards, nor fewer than two, nor all four board cards.

1.4

High hands rank according to the standard poker hand rankings.

Article 2Blinds and the deal

2.1

The game uses a dealer button, a small blind and a big blind, as in Texas Hold'em and Omaha.

2.2

Each player is dealt four hole cards face down.

2.3

The dealer burns one card face down before each stage of community cards. Community cards and betting rounds follow this sequence:

RoundCards dealt before the roundFirst to act
FirstFour hole cards to each playerPlayer to the left of the big blind
SecondBurn one; flop of two community cardsFirst active player to the left of the button
ThirdBurn one; the turn, one community cardFirst active player to the left of the button
FinalBurn one; the river, one community cardFirst active player to the left of the button
2.4

Betting follows the usual Hold'em and Omaha order. The betting structure (fixed-limit, pot-limit or no-limit) shall be announced before the deal.

Article 3Making a hand

3.1

A five-card hand shall be one of these two combinations:

3.1(a) Two hole cards and three community cards.

3.1(b) Three hole cards and two community cards.

3.2

This rule differs from Omaha, where exactly two hole cards and three board cards must be used. In Two Eleven, a player holding three suited or connected hole cards may use all three.

Example

Three hole cards make a royal flush

Board: J♥10♥9♠2♦

Player A holds A♥K♥Q♥4♣. Using three hole cards (A♥K♥Q♥) and two board cards (J♥10♥), A makes a royal flush.

In Omaha this would not be possible, because only two hole cards may be used.

Article 4Showdown and the high-low game

4.1

In the high-only game, the best high hand wins the pot. Tied hands split it equally.

4.2

In the high-low game, the pot is split between the best high hand and the best qualifying low hand, in the same way as Omaha Hi-Lo, with these rules for the low:

4.2(a) A low hand shall contain five cards of different ranks, none higher than a seven. This is a stricter qualifier than the eight-or-better used in Omaha Hi-Lo.

4.2(b) Low hands use ace-to-five ranking: aces are low, and straights and flushes do not count against a low hand. The best possible low is A-2-3-4-5.

4.2(c) The same two-or-three rule applies to the low hand. As in Omaha Hi-Lo, a player may use different cards for the high and the low.

4.2(d) If no hand qualifies for low, the best high hand wins the whole pot.

Example

One player wins both halves

Board: 2♠5♦8♣K♥

Player A holds A♣3♦4♥9♠. Using A♣3♦4♥ with 2♠5♦, A has A-2-3-4-5. This is the best possible low and also a five-high straight for high.

Player B holds A♦3♣6♥Q♠. B's best low is 6-5-3-2-A, using A♦3♣6♥ with 2♠5♦. B has no pair or better for high.

A-2-3-4-5 beats 6-5-3-2-A for low, and A's straight beats B's high card, so Player A wins the whole pot.

Article 5Variations and notes

  • The game can be played high only or high-low. The dealer shall announce which before the deal.
  • Because only four board cards are dealt, board-heavy hands are less common than in Hold'em or Omaha. The option to use three hole cards makes strong starting hands with three coordinated cards more valuable.
  • For the standard Omaha rules on blinds, betting and showdown order, see Omaha.

Article 6Frequently asked questions

How many cards do you use from your hand in Two Eleven?

Either two or three of your four hole cards, together with three or two of the four board cards, for exactly five cards.

What is the low qualifier in 2-11 poker?

Seven or better. A low hand must have five different ranks, none higher than a seven, and uses ace-to-five ranking.

How is Two Eleven different from Omaha?

Omaha deals a five-card board and requires exactly two hole cards. Two Eleven deals a four-card board (a two-card flop, a turn and a river) and lets you use two or three hole cards.
