Blind Omaha Rules

Blind Omaha is a fixed-stake version of Omaha with no betting. Each player gets four face-down cards they do not look at, and reveals them in stages as the flop, turn and river are dealt. Each player's best hand uses exactly two of their own cards and three from the board, and the best hand takes the pot.

Article 1Players, deck and objective

1.1

Blind Omaha is one of a group of fixed-stake games contributed to pagat.com by Ilya Bugreyev. They were first published on the Pokerlistings website, whose blog attributes them to Mikolaj Domanski. It is the Omaha counterpart of Blind Hold'em.

1.2

The game uses a standard 52-card deck with no jokers and no wild cards. Hands rank according to the standard poker hand rankings. Only the high hand wins; there is no low half.

1.3

The object is to hold the best five-card hand once all the cards are revealed. There are no decisions to make, so the result is pure chance.

1.4

Each player needs four cards and the board needs five, so a single deck is enough for up to eleven players.

Article 2The stake and the deal

2.1

Before the deal, every player puts the same agreed fixed stake into the pot. There is no further betting, and no player may fold.

2.2

The dealer deals four cards face down to each player, one at a time, clockwise.

2.3

Players shall not look at their own cards. Each card stays face down until the player reveals it at the stage set out in article 3.

Article 3The board and the reveals

The board and the players' cards are exposed in alternating stages.

StageBoardPlayers
1The flop: three cards dealt face upEach player turns two of their cards face up
2The turn: a fourth card dealt face upEach player turns a third card face up
3The river: a fifth card dealt face upEach player turns their last card face up
3.1

Because players have not seen their cards, the choice of which cards to reveal at each stage has no effect on the result.

3.2

Once the river is dealt and every player's four cards are face up, the hands are compared.

Article 4Showdown and splitting the pot

4.1

Each player's hand shall use exactly two of their four cards together with exactly three of the five board cards, as in Omaha.

4.2

It follows that a player cannot use a board of four or five cards of one suit, or a straight on the board, unless two of their own cards complete it.

4.3

The player with the best hand takes the whole pot. Tied players share the pot equally.

Example

Exactly two from the hand, three from the board

Board: K♥8♥5♣5♦2♠

Player A reveals A♥3♥9♣9♠. A's hearts cannot make a flush, because the board has only two hearts and A may use only two of their own. A's best hand is the two nines with the board's two fives and king: 9-9-5-5-K, two pair.

Player B reveals 5♠J♦J♣4♣. B combines the five of spades with the board's two fives, adds the jack of diamonds from hand and the king from the board: 5-5-5-K-J, three of a kind.

Three of a kind beats two pair, so Player B takes the pot.

Article 5Related fixed-stake games

  • Blind Hold'em: two hole cards each, any of which may be used.
  • Estonian Twist: players see their cards, pass one and discard one before the board is completed.
  • Crazy Dutchy: as Estonian Twist, with three separate boards.
