Article 1Players, deck and objective

1.1

The object of the game is to win the pot, either by holding the best five-card hand at showdown or by making a bet that no other player calls.

1.2

The game is played with a standard 52-card deck without jokers. Each player receives three hole cards, and four table cards are shared by everyone.

1.3

A player's hand is the best five cards chosen from their three hole cards and the four table cards, in any combination.

1.4

Wild cards. The lowest-ranking of the four table cards is wild, and so is every other card of the same rank, whether on the table or in a player's hand. The wild rank is not known until all four table cards have been turned.

1.5

Because wild cards are used, five of a kind is possible. Unless the dealer announces otherwise, five of a kind ranks above a straight flush. See hand rankings.

1.5(a) The source does not say whether an ace counts as the lowest table card. The dealer shall announce before the deal whether aces are high or low for this purpose.

Article 2Antes and the deal

2.1

Before the deal, each player puts in the ante agreed for the game.

2.2

The dealer deals three cards face down to each player, one at a time and clockwise.

2.3

There is a round of betting on the three hole cards before any table cards are dealt.

Article 3The table cards and betting

After the first betting round, four cards are dealt face down to the table and turned one at a time, each followed by a round of betting.

3.1

After the first betting round, the dealer deals four cards face down to the centre of the table.

3.2

The dealer turns the table cards face up one at a time. A round of betting follows each card.

3.3

Until the fourth table card is turned, the lowest card showing may still be displaced by a lower one. Players should bear in mind that the wild rank can change right up to the last card.

3.4

If all but one player folds at any point, the remaining player wins the pot without showing their cards.

Article 4Showdown

4.1

After the fifth betting round, the players still in the hand show their cards. The highest five-card hand, counting the wild cards, wins the pot.

4.2

A wild card may stand for any card its holder chooses. If two best hands are identical, the pot is split equally.

Example

The lowest table card sets the wild rank

Table: Q♣5♥9♦5♠. The fives are the lowest table cards, so all fives are wild.

Player A holds K♥K♦9♠. With the two wild fives from the table, A makes four kings with a queen: K-K-K-K-Q.

Player B holds 5♦9♣9♥. B's own five is also wild, giving B three wild cards. B's two nines, the nine on the table and two wild cards make five nines.

Five of a kind beats four of a kind, so Player B wins the pot.

Article 5Related games

Lame Brain Pete belongs to the same family as Cincinnati, where players hold five cards and five are turned on the table, and Round the World, which uses four hole cards and four table cards without a wild card. The pagat.com source describes no further variations of Lame Brain Pete, so any extra rules shall be announced by the dealer before the deal.
