Round the World Rules

Round the World is a shorter form of Cincinnati. Each player is dealt four cards face down and four cards are dealt face down to the table, then turned up one at a time with a round of betting after each. At the showdown, players make their best five-card hand from any combination of their hole cards and the table cards.

Article 1Players, deck and objective

1.1

The object of the game is to win the pot, either by holding the best five-card hand at showdown or by making a bet that no other player calls.

1.2

The game is played with a standard 52-card deck without jokers. Hands rank according to the standard poker hand rankings. There are no wild cards.

1.3

Each player receives four hole cards and four table cards are shared by everyone. One deck therefore serves up to twelve players.

1.4

A player's hand is the best five cards chosen from their four hole cards and the four table cards, in any combination.

Article 2Antes and the deal

2.1

Before the deal, each player puts in the ante agreed for the game.

2.2

The dealer deals four cards face down to each player, one at a time and clockwise, and four cards face down to the centre of the table.

2.3

Players may look at their own cards. The table cards stay face down until the dealer turns them.

Article 3Turning the table cards and betting

3Third card turnedBetting round
4Fourth card turnedFinal betting round, then showdown
3.1

The dealer turns the table cards face up one at a time. After each card is turned, there is a round of betting.

3.2

Betting follows the group's usual structure and order of play. Unless the group has agreed otherwise, the first active player to the dealer's left acts first in each round.

3.3

If all but one player folds at any point, the remaining player wins the pot without showing their cards.

Article 4Showdown

4.1

After the fourth betting round, the players still in the hand show their cards. The highest five-card hand wins the pot.

4.2

Cards outside a player's best five do not count. If two best hands are identical, the pot is split equally.

Example

Two full houses built on the same table cards

Table: A♦8♠8♥J♣

Player A holds A♠A♥8♣3♦. Using the ace and both eights from the table, A makes A-A-A-8-8, aces full of eights.

Player B holds J♠J♦6♣2♥. Using the jack and both eights from the table, B makes J-J-J-8-8, jacks full of eights.

Both hands are full houses, so the three-of-a-kind part decides. Three aces beat three jacks, and Player A wins the pot.

Article 5Related games and options

Round the World is Cincinnati with one card fewer in each hand and on the table. Groups that play Cincinnati's split-pot or wild-card options may apply them here, provided the dealer announces them before the deal. Lame Brain Pete uses the same four-card table with three hole cards and a wild rank set by the lowest table card.

Article 6Frequently asked questions

Four hole cards each, plus four shared table cards. You make your best five-card hand from those eight cards.
